File Transfer Help - Protocols: ------------------------------ Several File Transfer Protocols are available on the HMVH Corporation BBS. Their features are outlined below: Xmodem: An error-checking protocol that transmits data in blocks of 128 bytes. Most commonly used on baud rates up to 2400bps. Xmodem/1K: An extension to Xmodem, data is transmitted in 1k (1024 bytes) blocks. Xmodem/1K-g: Identical to Xmodem/1K, but the file is transmitted in one continuous stream of data. Should be used on error-correcting modems only. Press [Enter] for more... Ymodem: Also a type of extension to Xmodem, it transmits additional information about the file (such as name and length) along. Data is transmitted in 1k blocks. Ymodem-g: Similar to Ymodem, but data is sent in one continuous stream. Should only be used with error-correcting modems (MNP). Zmodem: The most popular protocol, Zmodem offers 16- and 32-bit CRC (excellent error-correction), batch transfers and fast error recovery. Furthermore, it is able to continue transmitting a file from where it left off should the connection have broken. Press [Enter] to continue. |
