The HMVH Corporation BBS makes use of various security levels. This is done in an effort to "group" or "classify" the system's users into various categories based upon their levels of activity and contributions. For example, a user who logs on once every two months just to download a few files, then disappears back into the wild blue yonder again cannot seriously expect himself to be classified as a serious and active user of the board. On the other hand, an active user may be defined as someone who makes his regular logons, uploads a fair share of files that other active users (or our file-piggies!) may find useful, makes good use of the various doors that are available, remains an active and contributing participant in the message areas, or constantly bothers the SysOp with some or other (constructive!) criticism stands a good chance of being promoted to a higher security level. And that decision remains the exclusive right of the boss, the SysOp! Press [Enter] for more... The security levels and their respective privileges and rights are displayed in tabular form below: Level Time Kilobytes (max.) Ratio (#) Ratio (kilobytes) Description =========================================================================== 1 20 200 0 0 New user --------------------------------------------------------------------------- 10 40 500 5 10 Regular scum 20 60 800 10 50 Regular user 30 60 1000 20 100 Regular user --------------------------------------------------------------------------- 50 90 3000 50 300 Member 60 100 3500 60 500 Good Member 70 110 4000 70 800 Better Member --------------------------------------------------------------------------- 80 120 4500 80 800 Visiting SysOps --------------------------------------------------------------------------- 90 120 5000 0 0 Paying Executive Member --------------------------------------------------------------------------- 100 180 10000 0 0 Sleeps with the SysOp ;) Press [Enter] for more... As can be seen, a new user (level 1) only has 20 minutes time per day to go about his business or download a maximum of 200k(ilobytes) (in selected areas only) of files. Conversely, a regular user (level 10+) is able to do much more per day, such as download 1000 kilobytes but is still bound to an upload/download ratio (see the "About Transfer Ratios" topic in this menu for an explanation on these) of 1 file to be uploaded for every 5 (Ratio #) downloaded, or 1k uploaded for every 10k downloaded. As for members, well... they're allowed to download up to five megabytes of files each 90-120 minute day, some with no ratios at all! Needless to say, they have access to all adult file- and message areas and groups as well... Therefore please keep in mind that, although an option may appear on a menu, it does not necessarily mean it is accessible to you as you might not have a level sufficient enough to actually select it.
