DOWNTIME.FAQ: This message is auto-posted on a regular basis. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- If you've ever noticed that the BBS is unavailable (busy signal, or the modem doesn't answer) for lengthy periods of time, don't panic just as yet, this could be for a variety of reasons: 1. The SysOp has decided to add more files: Shut up and be happy! 2. The SysOp has logged on to do some maintenance: Believe it or not, from time to time this is quite necessary, even if only to clean up some old rubbish. 3. The SysOp is busy with an upgrade: Software or hardware, upgrades are vital, even if only to keep abreast of the latest software versions. 4. The SysOp's busy with a backup: Shit, these things take time, especially if you're doing the whole shabang! Not my fault, one of those things... Other reasons could be that the machine has crashed (which I certainly hope does not become the main reason), the SysOp has fallen asleep behind the keyboard (yep, it happens, and I've got the marks on my forehead to prove it!), or there simply happens to be another user online. Duh! This isn't a WebServer (yet) nor do we have multiple lines, it's just a silly little BBS run by a human machine from his humble home on one phone line. So there!
